About the Role
We are looking for a skilled JavaScript/TypeScript Engineer to join our Ads and Commercial Development team. In this role, you will build and optimize the high-performance, low-latency infrastructure that powers our commercial platforms. Unlike standard full-stack or frontend roles that rely heavily on heavy UI frameworks, this position focuses deeply on the inner workings of the browser. You will write highly efficient vanilla JavaScript, interface directly with browser APIs, and manage the containerised infrastructure that serves our commercial products at scale.
Role-Related Knowledge:
- Browser Internals: Deep understanding of browser architecture, critical rendering paths, painting, layout engine mechanics, and memory management.
- Ad-Tech Ecosystem (Highly Desirable): Conceptual knowledge of digital advertising infrastructure, including header bidding, ad servers, tracking pixels, and privacy-focused sandbox APIs.
- Modern Web Standards: Strong grasp of security protocols (CORS, CSPs), cookie policies, and web performance metrics (Core Web Vitals).
About You
Essential Skills:
- Languages: Expert-level mastery of TypeScript and vanilla JavaScript (ES6+).
- Runtime Environments: Strong proficiency in js for backend services and build tooling.
- Low-Level DOM Manipulation: Proven experience working directly with the DOM and Browser APIs without relying on abstraction frameworks (React, Vue, etc.).
- DevOps & Infrastructure: Solid hands-on experience with Docker containers, Kubernetes (K8s), and building robust CI/CD pipelines.
- Software Engineering Fundamentals: Excellent command of data structures, algorithms, system design, and clean code architectures.
Capabilities:
- Performance Optimisation: Ability to profile, debug, and optimize code to execute with minimal CPU and memory footprints in highly constrained environments.
- Tooling Leverage: Proactive adoption and strong leverage of LLM/AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate development and automate repetitive workflows.
- Autonomy & Problem Solving: Capability to diagnose complex, asynchronous race conditions across different browser environments and vendor scripts.
Cultural Add:
- Engineering Excellence: You take pride in writing clean, well-tested, and maintainable code, avoiding unnecessary dependencies.
- Pragmatic & Technical Curiosity: You enjoy peeling back the layers of software to understand how things work under the hood rather than just making them work.
- Collaboration & Openness: You actively participate in code reviews, share technical insights, and welcome constructive feedback.
Package Description:
Our benefits package increases the longer you’ve been with us. Here’s what to expect:
- 25 days’ holiday (increasing by 1 per year up to a total of 30)
- Pension plan and life cover
- Discounts on online shopping, dining cards and vouchers, and access to our Employee Assistance Programme
- Onsite gym, subsidised canteen and onsite nurse and GP clinics
Plus much more...

How to prepare for a job interview at Worky
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Worky uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
✨Showcase Your Projects
Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.
✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
