Work with York Limited are recruiting Young Person's Support Workers to work on a 2:1 basis, supporting a non-verbal young person with autism and challenging behaviours. Support will be in the family home in York, and also out and about in the city. Core hours are 3.30pm – 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am-8pm on weekends on a 4 week rota. Additional hours will be available in school holidays. Hourly pay ranges from £17.78 to £19.41 depending on experience, with additional allowances for evening and weekend work.

Duties include:

  • Providing consistent, safe emotional support and de-escalating distress or behavioural challenges using NAPPI techniques;
  • Assisting with daily activities, including some personal care, help at mealtimes, and maintaining hygiene, all within a structured routine;
  • Administering medication when required;
  • Driving the young person to local activities and events;
  • Following and contributing to an individual care plan, and service risk assessments, and policies;
  • Keeping accurate and timely records, respecting and maintaining the young person’s privacy and confidentiality
  • Promoting a safe, structured and stimulating environment tailored to the young person’s individual needs.

You will:

  • Have experience of providing support to young people who have challenging behaviours, autism and ADHD.
  • Take a positive, proactive approach to support.
  • Be able to build positive relationships with the young person and his family members and with other carers in the team.
  • Have strong communication skills and an understanding of the need to consult other professionals in urgent situations.
  • Be NAPPI trained to level 3 or be willing to undertake this training.
  • Be a car driver (family vehicle to be used)
  • Have the right to work in the United Kingdom. Please note we are unable to offer sponsorship.
  • Have an enhanced DBS for child workforce on the update service or be willing to undertake a new one.
