Role Overview
The Director of Legal and Compliance will be responsible for leading all legal, risk management, and compliance functions within the organisation. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with labour laws, employment regulations, and corporate governance across multiple countries where we operate. The successful candidate will provide strategic legal counsel, mitigate risk, and develop frameworks to support international business.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with global employment laws, including but not limited to labour regulations, payroll compliance, tax laws, and corporate governance.
- Risk Management: Identify legal and compliance risks and develop risk mitigation strategies to protect the company and its clients.
- Employment Law and Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, service agreements, and other legal contracts to ensure compliance with local labour and misclassification laws.
- Country Licensing: Oversee compliance, maintenance and new applications with all in country requirements and regulations pertaining to licensing.
- Corporate Governance: Develop and enforce internal policies and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance and ethical business practices.
- Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary liaison with government agencies, legal bodies, and external legal counsel regarding employment and corporate legal matters.
- Data Protection and Privacy: Ensure compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other data protection regulations, working closely with IT and HR teams.
- Dispute Resolution and Litigation: Manage legal disputes, employee relations cases, and litigation matters in collaboration with external counsel.
- Training and Awareness: Lead legal and compliance training initiatives for internal teams to ensure adherence to global regulations.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Keep abreast of regulatory changes and update internal policies, accordingly, reporting to leadership on compliance matters.
Key Requirements
- Minimum requirement of a legal degree whilst working towards qualification to practice.
- 10+ years of experience in corporate law, employment law, or compliance, preferably within an EOR, PEO, or global HR services company.
- In-depth knowledge of global employment laws and regulatory frameworks in multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience managing staffing licensing (e.g. AUG, ETT) and other international labour compliance frameworks is highly desirable.
- Strong expertise in contract negotiation, risk management, and corporate governance.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities.
