Job Summary:
We are seeking a technically proficient and creatively driven designer to join our product development team (furniture) in Bedford. This is a hybrid role, offering a mix of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience in furniture design, with advanced skills in SolidWorks and KeyShot, and a strong understanding of materials, manufacturing methods, and technical detailing. You’ll be instrumental in designing and developing high-quality furniture from concept through to production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design original furniture pieces from initial sketches through to detailed 3D models and production-ready technical drawings.
- Create high-quality, photorealistic renders using KeyShot for presentations and internal reviews.
- Produce accurate CAD models and manufacturing documentation using SolidWorks, including BOMs and assembly details.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure designs meet aesthetic, functional, and manufacturing standards.
- Research and apply suitable materials, finishes, and processes to support innovative and durable design solutions.
- Refine and adapt existing designs in response to feedback and technical requirements.
- Maintain version control and clear documentation of all design files and iterations.
Requirements:
- Degree in Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a professional furniture or product design role.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and KeyShot.
- Strong understanding of joinery, construction techniques, materials (wood, metal, upholstery), and furniture manufacturing processes.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to produce precise technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and project management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with manufacturers and fabricators.
- Familiarity with CNC processes and sustainable design practices.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
- Passion for high-quality, custom, or bespoke furniture.
