A well-established and growing organisation within the construction, waste management and recycling sector is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead and strengthen its finance operations. This is a hands-on leadership role reporting directly to the Finance Director. You will oversee financial reporting, strengthen financial controls and support strategic decision-making across multiple divisions within the business. The role offers a unique opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional to combine operational finance leadership with strategic input.

As Financial Controller, you will take full responsibility for the delivery of accurate management accounts, financial control and reporting across the organisation while leading and developing a high-performing finance team. This is a varied and influential position suited to someone who enjoys working across both strategic and operational finance within a dynamic business environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the month-end close process and deliver accurate management accounts
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong financial controls
  • Provide meaningful financial analysis and insights to senior leadership
  • Oversee transactional finance including ledgers, payroll, VAT/CIS, fixed assets and intercompany transactions
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, banking and credit balances
  • Develop and improve financial systems, reporting processes and controls
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external auditors
  • Lead, mentor and develop a finance team of up to 10 staff members
Skills & Knowledge
  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Strong experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role
  • Proven experience delivering financial control outside of practice
  • Knowledge of accounting standards including FRS102, VAT, PAYE/NI and CIS
  • Strong systems capability and advanced Excel skills
  • Experience within construction, infrastructure, waste or similar sectors advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and team development experience
