Workplace Futures Group is one of the UK's leading workplace design, fit-out and construction specialists, delivering innovative commercial environments for occupiers, developers and investors across the UK. As part of our continued growth strategy, we are establishing a new Bristol office to support an expanding portfolio of projects across the South West. Central to this growth is the delivery of a landmark commercial office refurbishment scheme that will set new standards for workplace delivery within the region.

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Technical Services Manager to lead all building services, technical coordination and engineering activities across major commercial refurbishment and fit-out projects.

The Senior Technical Services Manager will be responsible for the leadership, integration and delivery of all building services and technical design elements across complex commercial office refurbishment projects. Working closely with clients, consultants, design teams, project managers and subcontractors, the role will ensure all MEP systems, life safety installations and technical packages are coordinated, compliant, buildable and delivered in line with programme, budget and quality expectations. This role will play a critical leadership position within the Bristol office, helping establish technical delivery standards whilst supporting the successful completion of a flagship commercial office refurbishment project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership
    • Lead all technical services activities across major refurbishment and fit-out projects.
    • Provide strategic oversight of MEP design development, coordination and delivery.
    • Act as the senior technical authority during project execution.
    • Ensure design and engineering solutions are robust, practical, compliant and commercially viable.
    • Drive technical excellence throughout the project lifecycle.
  • MEP Design & Coordination
    • Manage the development and coordination of mechanical, electrical, public health and life safety systems.
    • Review consultant design information and ensure buildability before construction commencement.
    • Coordinate technical design reviews across all disciplines.
    • Identify clashes, risks and coordination issues early and implement solutions.
    • Ensure all technical services elements are fully integrated with the wider project delivery programme.
  • Project Delivery
    • Work collaboratively with Project Managers and Commercial Managers to achieve project objectives.
    • Support programme development and technical sequencing activities.
    • Ensure procurement activities align with technical requirements and project milestones.
    • Monitor progress of technical installations throughout construction.
    • Lead technical workshops and coordination meetings.
  • Compliance & Building Safety
    • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, CDM requirements and statutory obligations.
    • Oversee quality assurance processes relating to building services installations.
    • Maintain a strong focus on fire safety, life safety and regulatory compliance.
    • Manage commissioning, testing and certification processes.
    • Support successful Building Control and client approvals.
  • Client & Stakeholder Management
    • Act as the principal technical contact for clients, consultants and specialist subcontractors.
    • Lead technical presentations, design reviews and engineering workshops.
    • Build strong working relationships with project stakeholders and professional teams.
    • Provide clients with confidence through proactive communication and technical leadership.
    • Support business development opportunities where technical input is required.
  • Supply Chain & Specialist Contractor Management
    • Manage specialist MEP subcontractors and engineering consultants.
    • Review contractor competency and technical submissions.
    • Oversee technical procurement packages and subcontractor onboarding.
    • Monitor subcontractor performance against technical deliverables.
    • Drive collaborative working across the supply chain.
  • Commissioning & Handover
    • Develop and manage commissioning programmes.
    • Ensure all systems are tested, commissioned and operating as designed.
    • Oversee production of O&M manuals, certifications and handover documentation.
    • Manage soft landings activities and client training requirements.
    • Ensure a smooth transition from construction to occupation.
  • Bristol Office Development
    • Support the establishment and growth of the Bristol office.
    • Develop relationships with local consultants, engineers and specialist subcontractors.
    • Help define regional technical delivery standards and best practice.
    • Mentor and develop future technical services personnel within the region.
    • Act as a technical ambassador for Workplace Futures Group throughout the South West.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Essential
    • Minimum 10 years' experience within Technical Services, Building Services or MEP Management roles.
    • Proven experience delivering major commercial office refurbishment or fit-out projects.
    • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, public health and life safety systems.
    • Experience working within Design & Build contracting environments.
    • Demonstrable experience managing consultant and subcontractor design teams.
    • Thorough understanding of Building Regulations, CDM and building services compliance requirements.
    • Experience managing project commissioning and handover processes.
    • Excellent stakeholder and client management skills.
    • Full UK driving licence.
  • Desirable
    • Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
    • Membership of CIBSE, IET, CIOB or equivalent professional institution.
    • Experience delivering projects valued in excess of £10m.
    • Experience of Smart Buildings, workplace technology and sustainable building solutions.
    • Existing relationships within the Bristol and South West construction market.
