Overview

The hospital offers an excellent starting salary (dependent on experience) with pay enhancements for overtime, shift, and out-of-hours work. The average working week is 39 hours, with overtime opportunities as required. As a SHO/Senior House Officer, you will work closely with other junior doctors, registrar doctors, and Consultants within your department. You must maintain communication with colleagues on duty before and after your shift to ensure continuity of patient care. You will instruct nursing staff and technical staff in investigations necessary for patient care, ensuring all departments are fully informed.

Eligibility and Sponsorship

GMC Registration is essential. Applications from doctors requiring a Tier 2 sponsorship are welcome. We consider all doctors with appropriate experience, including EU and UK-trained doctors. Upon appointment, the relevant paperwork will be issued.

Duties (Guideline)

  • Provide safe and effective care for patients.
  • Have delegated responsibility for patients under the care of the attached Consultant, including emergency coverage when other SHOs are off duty.
  • Refer issues beyond your authority or experience to the Consultant(s).
  • Apply specialist knowledge and skills across various procedures and practices.
  • Maintain responsibility for patient care and departmental functioning.
  • Provide diagnosis and treatment for all patient categories.
  • Participate in staff meetings, forums, and development programs to support service development and high-quality care.

Salary

The salary is based on the national salary scale, ranging from Β£37,068 to Β£57,650 per annum.

Professional Development

The post-holder must stay updated in their practice area and demonstrate this to the hospital/trust/GMC. The trust supports continuing professional development, providing time and financial support, aligned with Royal College requirements and GMC Revalidation.

Study Leave

Professional or study leave is granted for approved purposes, including study, research, teaching, examinations, and conferences. The maximum study leave allowance is 10 days per year.

  • IELTS (overall score 7.5) or OET (Grade B) for IMG applicants.
