Registrar / LAS SpR / Speciality Doctor / StR4+in Pathology Microbiology in Rawmarsh

Applications are invited for a Registrar / LAS SpR / Speciality Doctor / StR4+ in Pathology Microbiology. The post will commence as soon as possible. This role offers the opportunity to develop general registrar‑level skills and, for suitable candidates, advanced skills (ATSM).

Responsibilities

• Appropriate clinical responsibility for the care of patients delegated by the consultant, including co‑responsibility for the proper functioning of the microbiology department and supervision of junior staff.
• Running the ward with consultant cover on site during the day, consultant off‑site after hours.
• Participation in clinical audit, meetings and case conferences.
• Working within the multidisciplinary team, coordinating with medical, surgical and allied disciplines, and communicating with GPs and community agencies.
• Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the specialty and referred to the specialty.
• Participation in the SPR on‑call rota and providing cover for colleagues’ absence where required.
• Attending clinics, assessing patients, formulating treatment decisions and seeking consultant advice.
• Attending operating sessions, assisting or performing operations as appropriate.
• Conducting daily ward rounds on inpatients and supervising junior doctors.
• Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff.
• Acting in conjunction with admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy to develop and implement integrated pathology pathways.
• Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
• Adhering to Clinical & Corporate Governance policies and ensuring practice is aligned with the GMC General Medical Practice guidelines.
• Keeping up to date with Microbiology knowledge through continuous medical education.
• Demonstrating flexibility and responding to department needs as decided by the general manager and Clinical Lead.
• Contributing to the wider corporate and organisational needs of the Trust where appropriate.

Professional Development

The Trust supports continuing professional development as outlined by the Royal College of Physicians, providing time and financial support. It also facilitates the GMC’s Revalidation agenda, including 360° Multi‑Source Feedback and appraisal support. Professional and study leave is granted for postgraduate purposes, up to 30 days in a 3‑year period.

Eligibility and Qualifications

• Ability to cope with a varying workload.
• IELTS or OET (overall score 7.5 or grade B) for IMG candidates.
• GMC registration essential.
• Ability to act as part of a team.
