Job Description: Music Therapist

HCPC Registration Required (Health & Care Professionals Council) is essential. We welcome applications from all qualified Health & Care Professionals, including those requiring a Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK. Upon appointment, the relevant paperwork will be issued to successful applicants.

Overview

As a Music Therapist, you will use music creatively to help clients address social, emotional, or physical difficulties. You will communicate through music making and shared musical experiences to support clients and facilitate positive changes in behavior, communication, and wellbeing. You will work with children and adults of all ages and backgrounds, individually or in groups, across various clinical settings.

Your clients may be affected by conditions such as:

  • Acquired brain injury or stroke
  • Addiction
  • Autism
  • Communication delay
  • Dementia
  • Learning disabilities
  • Mental ill health
  • School exclusion
  • Serious illnesses like cancer
  • Social, behavioral, and emotional difficulties

You will also work with individuals seeking self-insight and improved social relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Agree therapy objectives with clients
  • Participate actively in sessions through playing, singing, and listening
  • Encourage clients to use accessible musical instruments and their voices to express themselves
  • Support and motivate client participation musically
  • Help clients explore sound to develop their own musical language
  • Improvise musically to respond to client communication, enhancing the therapeutic relationship
  • Plan, review, and assess sessions for effectiveness
  • Record sessions with client consent
  • Support creative development and self-awareness
  • Assess musical and non-musical behaviors
  • Attend multidisciplinary meetings for holistic care
  • Write case notes, reports, and treatment recommendations
