We are seeking a Registrar / LAS SpR / Speciality Doctor / StR4+ in Paediatric Surgery who will commence employment as soon as possible (ASAP). The role offers the opportunity to develop general registrar level skills and potentially more advanced skills for suitable candidates.
Eligibility & Sponsorship
Applicants who require a Skilled Worker / Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK will be considered. All EU and UK trained doctors with appropriate experience are also welcomed. Upon appointment, relevant paperwork will be issued to the successful applicant if required.
Key Responsibilities
- Appropriate clinical responsibility for the care of patients delegated by the consultant.
- Co‑responsibility for the proper functioning of the Paediatric Surgery department, including supervision of junior medical staff.
- Participation in the registrar on‑call rota and provision of cover in exceptional circumstances.
- Attending clinics, assessing patients, formulating treatment decisions, and seeking advice from the consultant as appropriate.
- Attending sessions with the consultant and assisting or performing procedures as appropriate.
- Running wards with consultant cover on site during the day and consultant off site after hours.
- Participation in clinical audit.
- Attendance at clinical meetings and case conferences as appropriate.
- Working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
- Communicating with other team members as appropriate.
- Coordinating appropriate medical disciplines concerned with care for the speciality and communicating with general practitioners and community agencies.
- Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the speciality.
- Conducting daily ward rounds on inpatients under the consultant’s care, supervising junior doctors while the patient is in their care.
- In conjunction with the admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy to develop and implement integrated Paediatric Surgery pathways throughout the hospital/trust.
- Participation in relevant audit for the department and quality assurance procedures.
- Abide by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the hospital/trust.
- Ensure that the guidance from the GMC on Good Medical Practice is at the heart of clinical practice.
- Keep up-to-date with Paediatric Surgery knowledge through continuous medical education.
- Be flexible to meet the needs of the department as decided by the general manager and clinical lead; timetable will be provided.
- Contribute to the wider corporate and organisational needs of the hospital/trust as appropriate.
- Adhere to hospital/trust procedures such as Health and Safety at Work and Equal Opportunities policies.

- Maintain personal and professional development and support staff development and training as appropriate.
- Attend statutory, essential, and mandatory training.

Essential Requirements
- IELTS or OET (overall score 7.5 or OET Grade 'B') for international medical graduates.
- GMC registration (essential). Guidance available if needed.
- Ability to cope with a varying workload.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Knowledge of and adherence to DBS and safeguarding procedures for staff with access to children or vulnerable adults.
- Ability to comply with hospital/trust policies such as Health and Safety at Work and Equal Opportunities.
Salary
Salary is based on the national salary scale as outlined in the Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions – £59,175 to £95,400 per annum. Extra hours are paid in addition to the basic salary.
Personal & Professional Development
The post holder is required to keep themselves up‑to‑date with their area of practice and demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the hospital/trust/GMC. The trust supports continuing professional development and revalidation, providing time and financial support.
Study Leave
Professional or study leave is granted for approved purposes and includes time off for study, research, teaching, examinations, visiting external clinics and attending professional conferences. The allowance is a maximum of 10 days per annum.
