Position Registrar / LAS SpR / Specialty Doctor / StR4+ in Stroke Medicine. Commencement Starts: ASAP.
Responsibilities
- Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting acutely to the stroke specialty and referred to the specialty.
- Participation in clinical audit.
- Attendance at clinical meetings and case conferences.
- Working within the multidisciplinary team.
- Attending clinics, assessing patients and formulating treatment decisions in consultation with a consultant.
- Attending operating sessions with the consultant and assisting or performing operations.
- Conducting daily ward rounds on inpatients under the consultant’s care, supervising junior doctors.
- Providing appropriate clinical responsibility for patients delegated by the consultant.
- Co‑responsibility for the proper functioning of the emergency medicine department, including supervision of junior staff.
- Running ward with consultant cover on site during the day and consultant off site after hours.
- Coordinating appropriate medical, surgical and allied disciplines concerned with patient care and communicating appropriately with general practitioners and community agencies.
- Participation in the SPR on‑call rota and providing cover in exceptional circumstances.
- Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff.
- Maintaining communication with other team members.
- Developing and implementing integrated stroke medicine pathways throughout the Trust in partnership with admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy.
- Participation in audit and quality assurance processes.
- Adhering to Clinical & Corporate Governance policies and Good Medical Practice guidance.
- Keeping up to date with stroke medicine knowledge through continuous medical education.
- Flexibility to meet the needs of the department as decided by the general manager and clinical lead.
- Contributing to the wider corporate and organisational needs of the Trust.
Essential Requirements
- GMC registration (essential).
- Ability to cope with varying workload.
- IELTS or OET (overall score 7.5 or OET Grade 'B') for internationally qualified doctors.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Criminal record check – DBS, International police check or character reference as required.
