WorkNest Secure is looking for a motivated and ambitious Junior Software & Systems Engineer to join our growing Development team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the start of their software engineering career who wants to gain hands‑on experience across software development, cloud‑based SaaS platforms, infrastructure, and technical support within a dynamic cybersecurity environment.

You’ll work alongside experienced developers and infrastructure specialists, contributing to the development of our products while helping to maintain the systems and services that support our customers. This role offers exposure to backend development, DevOps practices, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity‑focused solutions.

We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about technology, eager to learn, and keen to develop their skills in software engineering and systems administration.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance scalable SaaS applications, APIs, and backend services using Python and PHP.
  • Contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of new product features and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner and DevOps Engineer to deliver high‑quality software solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand‑ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and code reviews.
  • Support the implementation of logging, monitoring, and observability tools across applications and services.

Systems & Infrastructure

  • Assist in maintaining and improving the SecureGateway infrastructure, ensuring performance, security, reliability, and scalability.
  • Support cloud‑based systems and services, contributing to infrastructure improvements and automation initiatives.
  • Assist with system monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation activities.

Technical & IT Support

  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams, diagnosing and resolving software, hardware, and system‑related issues.
  • Assist with IT support activities, including device setup, software installation, networking, and user support.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement effective resolutions.

Collaboration & Engagement

  • Work closely with colleagues across Development, Product, and Operations teams to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations to improve products, processes, and customer experience.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience with Python and PHP through professional experience, internships, academic projects, or personal development projects.
  • Familiarity with Linux‑based operating systems and environments.
  • Basic understanding of web technologies and RESTful API design principles.
  • Knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new technologies and tools.

Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to cloud platforms and SaaS environments.
  • Understanding of DevOps concepts, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure management.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
  • Experience using version control systems such as Git.

Location & Eligibility

This is a hybrid role requiring regular attendance at our office.
