ABOUT THE ROLE
The CIS Specialistis responsible forthe administration and compliance of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) across the business, ensuring all subcontractor records, HMRC submissions and associated legislative requirements are managed accurately and on time.
The role will require regular communication with the Accounts team, Property Managers, Surveyors,subcontractorsand HMRC whererequired, providing specialist advice and support on all CIS-related matters. Working closely with operational and finance teams, you will help ensure the businessremainsfully compliant with current legislation while continuously improving processes and controls.
This role is based in our Swindon office, with occasional travel to our Bristol office asrequired.
WHAT MATTERS MOST IN THIS ROLE
Maintaininga high levelof accuracy and ensuring compliance with HMRC legislation is fundamental to success in this role. You will act as the business's CIS subject matter expert, supporting colleagues with technical guidance and ensuring subcontractor information ismaintainedcorrectly.
The role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organisationalskillsand the ability to manage statutory deadlines. You will be confident working collaboratively across departments andidentifyingopportunities to improve existing processes whilemaintainingrobust compliance standards.
Other duties will include:
- ReviewingPurchase Orders,Contractsandapproved supplier invoices todeterminewhether the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) applies.
- Verifying subcontractor registration status with HMRC andmaintainingaccurateCIS records.
- Ensuring the correct CIS tax treatment is appliedin accordance withHMRC legislation.
- Preparing andsubmittingmonthly CIS returns within statutory deadlines.
- Producing and distributing monthly CIS deduction and payment statements.
- Providing advice and guidance to internal teams on CIS legislation and the VAT Domestic Reverse Charge.
- Reviewing subcontractor records to ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
- Maintainingaccurateaudit trails and supporting documentation for all CIS activity.
- Monitoring legislative changes and implementing process updates whererequired.
- Supporting internal and external audits relating to CIS compliance.
- Producing management information and compliance reports asrequired.
- Working with Finance, Property Management and Surveying teams to improve CIS processes and ensure legislative compliance.
- Undertaking any other duties required to support the smooth running of the Finance function.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
A proactive, organised and detail-oriented approach is essential. You will be comfortable interpreting legislation, managing statutory deadlines andprovidingexpert advice to colleagues across the business.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are key, together with the ability to work independently and collaboratively to deliver a high-quality service.
The following are key skill requirements:
- Previousexperience in a specialist CIS role.
- Strong working knowledge of the UK Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and HMRC requirements.
- Experience preparing andsubmittingmonthly CIS returns.
- Knowledge of the VAT Domestic Reverse Charge for construction services.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Confident using Microsoft Excel, including lookups and pivot tables.
- Ability to interpret legislation and communicate technical information clearly.
- Experience within the property management,constructionor real estate sector (desirable).
