You will lead and coordinate the delivery of Whole Life Carbon Assessments (WLCA) across a broad portfolio of commercial real estate projects, acting as the core technical specialist within the team. This strategic role strengthens our WLCA capability and underpins the growth of our net zero advisory services. Working closely with design teams, QSs and project managers, you will oversee WLCA modelling, manage data inputs, and ensure methodological consistency across all projects.
The ability to translate carbon findings into meaningful commercial insight is imperative and a strong cost consultancy or QS background would be beneficial. Acting as a primary advisor to clients, you will distil complex carbon outcomes into clear recommendations that inform design, cost and value focused decisions. Experience with energy modelling or building physics is advantageous, though not essential. This is a growth position with the opportunity to shape our WLCA offering, enhance tools and standards, and mentor junior team members as the team expands. You will also contribute to the evolution of our sustainability service lines by integrating WLCA thinking into wider net zero strategies, supporting cross disciplinary collaboration and strengthening our technical reputation in the market.
What matters most in this role:
- Leading high quality WLCA delivery across multiple commercial projects, ensuring assessments are robust, consistent and aligned with UK best practice standards.
- Your leadership will ensure carbon modelling is integrated with cost, programme and design information.
- Providing commercially relevant, cost linked carbon advice that enables value driven decision making for clients.
- You will bridge technical WLCA outputs with practical, costed recommendations that drive low carbon outcomes.
- Strengthening our WLCA capability by developing tools, templates, methodologies and internal QA processes, supporting the long-term maturity and scalability of the service.
Other duties will include:
- Managing WLCA delivery using industry tools such as One Click LCA, eTool, EC3 or Excel-based models.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary project teams to gather data, validate assumptions and maintain methodology consistency.
- Reviewing cost plans and BoQs to extract material quantities and interpret commercial implications.
- Preparing and delivering WLCA outputs and presentations for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Leading improvements to WLCA templates, benchmarks, tools and processes, ensuring alignment with LETI, RICS WLCA PS, UKGBC and UK net-zero frameworks.
Salary band: £50,000 – £55,000 PA
What we expect of you:
- A background in cost consultancy or quantity surveying, or strong experience interpreting cost plans, specifications and material quantities.
- You will be confident navigating drawings, BoQs and cost data to support WLCA modelling.
- Significant hands on WLCA delivery experience across commercial or mixed-use projects, with strong working knowledge of embodied carbon datasets, EPDs, material lifecycles and mainstream WLCA tools.
- Excellent analytical and Excel skills, with the ability to structure models, QA data, interrogate assumptions and maintain accuracy in complex assessments.
- Strong communication skills and client facing experience, with the ability to translate technical carbon modelling into clear, commercially relevant recommendations for project teams and stakeholders.
- A proactive and pragmatic mindset technically curious, detail oriented and commercially aware, with an understanding of cost value carbon trade offs and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Experience mentoring junior colleagues or supporting team growth is highly desirable, alongside familiarity with energy modelling, BREEAM evidence, option appraisals and UK net-zero standards.
