We are looking for a highly organised and proactive Barrack Damage Manager to join the team at Merville Barracks, Colchester, CO2 7UT. This is a key role supporting the effective management, maintenance, and operational readiness of military accommodation and associated facilities across the site. Managing over 127 buildings and approximately 2,500 soldiers' accommodation spaces, you will play a vital role in ensuring barrack facilities remain safe, functional, compliant, and fit for occupancy. This position would suit someone with experience in facilities support, accommodation services, property management, maintenance coordination, or operational administration who is confident managing inspections, coordinating repairs, handling sensitive situations, and working within a structured environment.
Inspection & Damage Assessment
- Conduct inspections of accommodation blocks and facilities to identify damage, maintenance issues, and compliance concerns
- Investigate reported incidents and assess repair requirements
- Produce detailed inspection reports, photographs, and condition assessments
- Monitor recurring or high-risk building issues
Repair & Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance activities through the helpdesk reporting system
- Liaise with contractors, facilities teams, and service providers
- Track repair progress and ensure works are completed within agreed timescales
- Escalate urgent or safety-critical issues where required
- Monitor contractor performance and service delivery standards
Administration & Record Management
- Maintain accurate inspection reports, damage registers, and correspondence
- Ensure records are compliant with company policies and procedures
- Produce reports on repair trends, building conditions, and outstanding issues
- Support data management and system updates
Stakeholder Liaison
- Liaise with military accommodation teams and stakeholders regarding damages and repairs
- Provide guidance on accommodation standards and reporting procedures
- Respond to queries and resolve issues professionally and efficiently
- Build effective working relationships across multiple departments
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure all inspections and processes comply with health & safety and organisational standards
- Support audits and compliance reviews through accurate documentation
- Identify recurring damage trends and non-compliance concerns
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and process development
Cost Recovery & Financial Support
- Support cost recovery processes relating to occupant or third-party damages
- Prepare evidence and supporting documentation for claims
- Assist with tracking repair expenditure and maintaining accurate financial records
Qualifications
- Experience in administration, facilities support, accommodation services, or maintenance coordination
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience conducting inspections and maintaining accurate records
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with contractors, occupants, and stakeholders
- Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and administrative systems
- Understanding of workplace health & safety requirements
- Experience operating at unit/department manager level or Level 4/5 qualification (or equivalent)
