Job Description Summary:

Bus Stop Assistant - Grade 2 - Pro Rata Salary - £12,397

Working pattern: Week 1 – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; Week 2 – Thursday and Friday.

ROLE AND PURPOSE

To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that facilitates the operation of the public transport network within Hull. To assist in the provision of accurate and timely information at bus stops and other associated sites throughout the city, examples such as Hull Interchange and Priory Park, by fixing and maintaining bus stop plates, timetable cases, timetable information and Road Closure notifications around the Hull City Council network. To liaise with staff and managers across various Service areas to promote an understanding of Public Transport department and network with Hull City Council and associated areas. To drive a fleet vehicle on a mostly daily basis, collate infrastructure data at bus stops through the internal ICT system and keep departmental records up to date by using a hand held device (PDA or equivalent). Information that needs recording will include advertising campaigns, timetable and network information. To maintain the cleanliness of travel information displays at bus stops and shelters and promote bus travel for all bus users/general public. The post holder will be required to wear full PPE (supplied) at all times when carrying out their duties.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Statutory Obligations - Undertake Dynamic Risk Assessments and have an understanding of Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Inspect and record the condition of the infrastructure at bus stops within specified guidelines, on standard forms, and report back to the Interchange & P&R Manager.
  • Fix bus stop timetables cases/bus stop plates, bus stops transfers to bus stop poles and lighting columns.
  • Maintain/repair bus stop plates/timetable cases and information panels in bus shelters, and removal of graffiti and washing as necessary throughout the city.
  • Advise/assist on preparation of bus stop plate transfers/timetable updates in accordance with bus operators registered/planned amendments.
  • Insert timetables, advertising, signage and other travel information in timetable cases/information panels owned by the Council and Council’s bus shelter contractor. These can be in a bus stop, shelter, travel interchange or associated sites throughout the city.
  • Record all features data at bus stops, within the city, on Portable Electronic PDA collectors or equivalent and update the Council’s Asset Management records and PTS folder within Public Transport Hull CC.
  • Keep accurate records, including report sheets, photographs and personal log book of all tasks/inspections, maintained for record.
  • The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on Hull City Council, as your employer and you as an employee of the council. In addition to the Councils overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Council’s Corporate H&S policy.

Compensation Grades: GRADES 2.

Pay Ranges: £24,413.00 - £24,796.00
