Are you an experienced Social Worker? If so, there is an exciting opportunity to join Hull City Council. As part of the Children’s Social Care reform, we have created additional Advanced Social Work positions across the Locality Safeguarding Teams, who don’t case hold. There is one position based in the West team. The post holder will be supervised by the Group Manager and provide additional support to the teams.
Hull Children's Services has recently achieved its strongest ever Ofsted judgement, being rated Good overall, with Outstanding judgements for the impact of leaders on social work practice and for the experiences and progress of care leavers. Inspectors recognised the significant progress made across the service, describing it as "safer, stronger and more consistent" for children and families.

Advanced Social Workers are based in one of the following service areas:
- Locality based safeguarding teams
- Permanence teams
- Assessment teams
Advanced Social Workers are highly skilled and experienced Social Workers and the key purpose of the role is to deliver high quality social work practice which achieves the best possible outcomes for children and young people in need of social work support, assessment and intervention. Advanced Social Workers will demonstrate a high standard of systemic practice, providing support and co-working with less experienced members of the team.
Importantly, Advanced Social Workers will model and help others to develop key elements of Systemic practice including:
- A strengths and relationship-based approach
- Different perspectives and collaboration
- Family & Goal orientated plans which are SMART
- The value of systemic tools such as genograms
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Strategy: Advanced Social Workers will contribute to the overarching strategy and vision of the service, ensuring that practice demonstrates robust risk management arrangements.
- Customer Focus: The role works in partnership with colleagues, parents and carers to ensure that child centred systemic practice is the understood standard and expectation.
- Performance Management: Advanced Social Workers are expected to manage high levels of risk and complexity in casework.
- Leadership: Advanced Social Workers will support the Team Manager with important aspects of the management role including team development work & co-working complex cases with less experienced team members.
- Statutory Obligations: Advanced Social Workers are required to have a high level of understanding regarding the statutory framework in which they practice.
- The role holds case responsibility for complex casework and provides a co-working and support role for less experienced members of the team.
- Advanced Social Workers will provide support and informal supervision to other members of the team, enhancing the formal supervision provided by the team manager role.
- Advanced Social Workers will be the lead worker for complex court work and will be required to support less experienced staff in developing court skills and preparing reports and assessments for court.
- Contributes to the development of effective partnerships in order to achieve a coordinated approach to ensure effective safeguarding arrangements.
