Essex County Council are delighted to be supporting Harlow District Council to recruit a temporary Environmental Health Food Officer on a part-time basis of 1 day per week until March 2027.

Harlow is a district of contrasts and an ideal location to both live and work. The town itself is thriving, with excellent shopping and leisure facilities for all ages. We have good road links to the M11 and M25 and excellent rail connections to London and Stansted Airport, just 35 minutes and 20 minutes away from Harlow respectively.

The role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a full range of high-quality food hygiene inspections, with most of the work involving Category D and newly registered/unrated food businesses.

The experience you will bring:

  • Previous experience undertaking food hygiene inspections within an Environmental Health setting
  • Ability to carry out inspections to a high professional standard and in accordance with relevant food safety legislation and procedures
  • Appropriate CIEH registration
  • Up-to-date Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including evidence of at least 10 hours of core food training
  • Strong communication, organisational and report-writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage inspection workloads effectively
