Salary: £37,000 per annum (Reviewed annually in April)
Location: Workforce Training Services, 465467 Antrim Road, Belfast, with travel to other training centres, employer premises and outreach locations as required.
Responsible To: Corporate Services Manager / Employability Programmes Lead.
Hours of Duty: 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, with time off in lieu where appropriate.
Job Purpose: To provide one-to-one and group mentoring, employability support and skills development to participants engaged in Workforce Training Services Employment Academies and Employability Programmes. The postholder will support unemployed and economically inactive individuals to overcome barriers, gain qualifications, develop confidence and progress into employment, apprenticeships, further education or training.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of participants across a range of employability and sector-based academies.
- Recruit and engage participants through outreach, referrals and promotional activities.
- Complete initial assessments and develop individual action plans.
- Provide mentoring and motivational support to help participants overcome barriers to employment.
- Deliver employability workshops including CV writing, job applications, interview preparation and job search.
- Provide impartial information, advice and guidance on career and progression pathways.
- Support participants to achieve accredited and non-accredited qualifications.
- Liaise with employers to secure work placements, interviews and job opportunities.
- Maintain regular contact with participants during training, placements and after progression.
- Work with external agencies to arrange specialist support where required.
- Maintain accurate records and monitoring information in line with funder and quality requirements.
- Contribute to achieving recruitment, qualification and progression targets.
- Assist with induction sessions, employer visits and programme events.
- Promote equality, diversity, safeguarding and health and safety.
- Prepare reports and attend team meetings as required.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by management.
Person Specification:
Essential Criteria:
- A minimum of three years experience supporting unemployed or economically inactive adults, particularly those facing multiple barriers to learning and employment.
- Experience delivering employability support, mentoring, and information, advice and guidance.
- Sound understanding of safeguarding, adults at risk, and relevant legislation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, motivational, organisational, and administrative skills.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and database/record management systems.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to build effective relationships with participants, employers, and partner organisations.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding.
- Full current driving licence and access to transport, with the ability to travel across programme locations.
Desirable Criteria:
- Degree-level education or an equivalent professional qualification and relevant experience.
- Teaching or training qualification.
- Experience delivering council, government or externally funded employability programmes.
- Knowledge of the local labour market and employer networks.
