Due to continued growth and investment, they are looking to recruit an experienced CNC Miller - Setter/Operator to join their modern machining facility in Welwyn Garden City.

Working on a Mazak i-600 5-axis machining centre integrated with a PALLETECH automation system, you’ll play a key role in producing complex precision components while helping maximise machine utilisation through multi-pallet and lights‑out manufacturing.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for setting and operating a Mazak i-600 5‑axis machining centre, ensuring components are manufactured accurately, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Working alongside the programming and quality teams, you’ll help optimise production, improve cycle times and maintain the exceptional manufacturing standards the company is known for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and operate a Mazak i-600 5‑axis machining centre with PALLETECH pallet automation.
  • Set fixtures, tooling, work offsets and tool lengths.
  • Verify first‑off components and carry out in‑process inspections.
  • Edit and optimise ISO/EIA programs at the machine.
  • Manage production priorities across the PALLETECH system.
  • Inspect components using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and CMM reports where required.
  • Carry out routine machine maintenance and tool life management.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Complete production and quality documentation accurately.
  • Work closely with Programming and Quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Maintain high housekeeping and 5S standards.

About You

  • Previous experience setting and operating CNC milling machines within a precision engineering environment.
  • Experience with Mazak machining centres, ideally the Mazak i-600.
  • Experience with PALLETECH automation would be highly advantageous.
  • Ability to edit ISO/EIA (G‑code) programs.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, fixtures and precision machining techniques.
  • Experience working to tight tolerances (typically ±0.01mm).
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • A positive, proactive approach and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Flexibility to work overtime when required.

  • Multi‑pallet production and lights‑out machining.
  • Renishaw probing cycles.
  • Tool management systems.
  • Continuous improvement techniques including 5S, SMED and Kaizen.
