Job Overview
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Mechanical Fitter to join our maintenance team in Sheffield. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing a wide range of industrial plant and machinery, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently while minimising downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on plant and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on conveyors, balers, crushers, pumps, gearboxes, motors, and associated machinery.
- Install, assemble, and commission new mechanical equipment.
- Replace bearings, shafts, chains, belts, seals, and other mechanical components.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report any recurring faults.
- Work closely with production staff to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Keep the workshop and work areas clean, organised, and safe.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, or in a similar role.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience maintaining heavy industrial plant is desirable.
- Good understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to work and a positive attitude.
