Salary: £38,000 – £40,000 per annum + quarterly bonus
Hours: Monday–Thursday 8:00am–4:30pm, Friday 8:00am–1:00pm
Working pattern: Office-based, full time

The Role

An established and highly regarded engineering and manufacturing business is looking for an experienced Buyer to join its procurement team.

This is a hands‑on procurement role, responsible for sourcing products and services, managing supplier relationships and ensuring the best combination of quality, cost and delivery. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external suppliers to support smooth day‑to‑day operations while identifying opportunities to improve purchasing performance and reduce costs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate and qualify suppliers across assigned categories
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times and service levels
  • Raise and manage purchase orders through to delivery
  • Monitor supplier performance, quality and on‑time delivery
  • Resolve delivery, quality and supply issues
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, consolidation and process improvement
  • Analyse spend and market information to support purchasing decisions
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, audit trails and compliance
  • Work with internal stakeholders to forecast demand and manage inventory requirements
  • Produce relevant purchasing and performance reports for senior management

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a Buyer or Procurement role, preferably within an engineering, manufacturing or similar environment
  • CIPS Level 4 qualification or a willingness to continue professional development
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management abilities
  • High attention to detail
  • The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with pressure or competing priorities
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as effectively within a wider team
