Composite Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Swindon or Gloucester
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 DOE
Hours: Monday-Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm | Friday 8:00am-2:30pm
The Role
An exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing advanced manufacturing business specialising in innovative composite manufacturing for the aerospace, automotive, defence and space sectors.
We are looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support the development, industrialisation and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes within the Swindon facility.
You will work closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Tooling, Procurement and Business Development to ensure products are effectively transferred into production and manufacturing processes meet customer and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Business Development with quotations, manufacturing methodology and costings.
- Support Design for Manufacture activities.
- Create routings, BoMs, Methods of Manufacture and process sheets.
- Produce clear step-by-step manufacturing instructions covering tooling, equipment, materials, cure cycles and H&S requirements.
- Ensure customer specifications, quality approvals and compliance requirements are addressed.
- Develop quality control procedures and inspection plans.
- Work with Tooling Design to develop tooling concepts and requirements.
- Develop PFMEAs and support risk reduction and gauge R&R activities.
- Review production data and identify improvements to quality, efficiency and manufacturing processes.
- Provide technical support to Procurement and suppliers.
- Support NPI and production readiness activities as required.
About You
- Practical experience in composite manufacturing and processing is essential.
- Strong understanding of composite materials and their behaviour.
- Experience within an aerospace or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of AS9100 and quality control requirements.
- Experience with manufacturing documentation, routings, BoMs and Methods of Manufacture.
- CAD experience, ideally SolidWorks and Composer, plus good Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- AFP experience is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of PFMEA, root cause analysis, Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Degree in Composite Materials, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline is desirable.
- Six Sigma Green/Black Belt is advantageous but not essential.
