Position Overview:
We’re currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Setter Operator to join a busy and forward-thinking engineering team. The ideal candidate will be confident working with minimal supervision, setting up CNC machines, adjusting tooling, and ensuring all parts meet spec. You will play a key role in keeping operations running smoothly and efficiently.
Daily Duties Will Include:
- Setting up CNC machines and selecting the appropriate tools for each job
- Running multiple machines, including loading materials and monitoring production
- Performing simulations and fine-tuning machine settings to improve cycle time and part quality
- Changing datums and carrying out tool offsets when required
- Highlighting setup issues and providing feedback on program efficiency
- Identifying worn tooling and replacing when necessary
- Carrying out first-off checks and final part inspections
- Ensuring work orders are signed off once complete
- Communicating progress and any delays with the wider team
- Monitoring machine performance and making quality-focused adjustments
- Troubleshooting to reduce downtime and maintain output
- Helping with general maintenance and reporting faults
- Reviewing and escalating issues with drawings or job instructions
- Following health & safety procedures and promoting safe working practices
- Supporting both internal and external audits, including resolving any non-conformances
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work area
What We’re Looking For:
Technical Requirements:
- Solid understanding of CNC milling techniques, tooling, and modern manufacturing processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with a strong attention to detail
- Confident in inspecting parts and checking tolerances
- Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018
Key Skills:
- Strong communication and teamwork across all departments
- Logical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills
- Reliable, motivated, and keen to develop
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Comfortable using standard IT systems and learning new ones
Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a CNC setting/operating role
- Completed time-served apprenticeship (preferred)
- Relevant qualifications in manufacturing or engineering
- First Aid certification is desirable
