An experienced Manual Turner is required to join a growing and dynamic engineering team. The role primarily involves manual turning, repair work, and reverse engineering to produce high‑precision, custom components. You will work on a variety of projects, often based on customer drawings, sketches, and samples. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll use traditional machining techniques, with a particular focus on repair and reverse engineering tasks for a range of industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manual Turning: Set up and operate manual turning machines to manufacture high‑quality precision components from customer drawings, samples, and sketches.
- Repair Work: Carry out repair work on damaged or worn‑out parts, including re‑machining, restoring components to working condition, and ensuring the correct dimensions and tolerances are met.
- Reverse Engineering: Use reverse engineering techniques to replicate or modify existing parts where original drawings or specifications are not available.
- Quality Control: Conduct in‑process and final inspections of parts to ensure they meet required tolerances and quality standards.
- Tooling & Setup: Select and set up appropriate tooling and machine settings to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform basic maintenance on manual turning equipment to ensure machines are running at peak performance. Troubleshoot any issues with machinery and components as they arise.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the engineering team and other departments to ensure projects are completed on time and to the highest standards.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work completed, including repair reports, reverse engineering documentation, and job timings.
Experience & Skill Requirements:
- Time‑served Manual Turner with proven experience in traditional turning techniques.
- Extensive experience in manual turning operations, including repair and restoration of components.
- Strong reverse engineering skills, with the ability to replicate and modify components from samples or sketches.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced, jobbing environment where no two jobs are the same.
- Ability to work to close tolerances and tight deadlines.
- Strong mechanical engineering background, particularly in light to medium engineering.
- Confident working from samples, sketches, and engineering drawings.
- Prior experience in repair work, ensuring machinery and components are restored to functional conditions.
- Ability to problem‑solve and innovate when faced with non‑standard machining challenges.
