Our client is a specialist contractor delivering water services and infrastructure-related projects across the South West. Due to continued growth and a strong order book, they are looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Bristol.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor looking to develop within a specialist contractor working on varied water, utilities and civil engineering-related schemes.
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from initial tender stage through to final account. Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and reviewing project costings, estimates and tender submissions
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and contract documentation
- Managing project budgets, forecasts and cost reports
- Preparing valuations and applications for payment
- Managing compensation events, variations and change control
- Supporting procurement of materials, subcontractor packages and specialist services
- Assessing subcontractor applications, payments and final accounts
- Liaising with clients, project managers, site teams, suppliers and subcontractors
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout project delivery
- Assisting with final accounts and commercial close-out
- Attending site and project meetings as required
The Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Engineer
- Experience within water, utilities, civil engineering, infrastructure or specialist contracting would be advantageous
- NEC contract knowledge or experience preferred, although this is not essential
- Strong commercial awareness and good numerical skills
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and technical information
- Good communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
- Competence with Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering or Construction
- A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to project sites when required
