Our client is a specialist contractor delivering water services and infrastructure-related projects across the South West. Due to continued growth and a strong order book, they are looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor looking to develop within a specialist contractor working on varied water, utilities and civil engineering-related schemes.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from initial tender stage through to final account. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing project costings, estimates and tender submissions
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and contract documentation
  • Managing project budgets, forecasts and cost reports
  • Preparing valuations and applications for payment
  • Managing compensation events, variations and change control
  • Supporting procurement of materials, subcontractor packages and specialist services
  • Assessing subcontractor applications, payments and final accounts
  • Liaising with clients, project managers, site teams, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout project delivery
  • Assisting with final accounts and commercial close-out
  • Attending site and project meetings as required

The Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Engineer
  • Experience within water, utilities, civil engineering, infrastructure or specialist contracting would be advantageous
  • NEC contract knowledge or experience preferred, although this is not essential
  • Strong commercial awareness and good numerical skills
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and technical information
  • Good communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
  • Competence with Microsoft Excel and commercial reporting
  • A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering or Construction
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to project sites when required
