Trainee Quantity Surveyor / Estimator Location: Near Ilkeston, Derbyshire Salary: £28,000 per annum Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time An established electrical contractor based near Ilkeston is looking to recruit a Trainee Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join its commercial team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career within the electrical and construction industry. Full training and support will be provided by experienced estimators, quantity surveyors and project managers. The Role You will assist with the pricing and commercial management of electrical installation projects. Your duties will include: * Assisting with the preparation of estimates and quotations * Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documents * Obtaining prices from suppliers and subcontractors * Measuring quantities and preparing cost breakdowns * Supporting the preparation and submission of tenders * Assisting with project cost monitoring * Helping to manage variations and additional works * Preparing basic valuations and commercial reports * Maintaining accurate tender and project records * Working closely with contracts managers, engineers and site teams * Attending site visits and project meetings when required The Candidate This position would suit a recent graduate, college leaver or someone with junior experience who is looking to develop a career in estimating and quantity surveying. Applicants should have: * A genuine interest in construction, electrical contracting or commercial management * Good numerical and analytical skills * Strong attention to detail * Good communication and organisational skills * Confidence using Microsoft Excel and other Office software * A willingness to learn and develop * The ability to work both independently and as part of a team A qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building Services, Electrical Engineering or a related subject would be beneficial, but is not essential. Previous estimating or construction experience would also be advantageous, although full training will be provided.
