Workflow Recruitment is recruiting for a Senior Estimator to join an established building services and property improvement contractor delivering projects across the public and private sectors. As the Senior Estimator, you will take ownership of estimating and tender pricing across refurbishment, retrofit, planned maintenance and construction projects. This is a senior, hands-on position focused on producing accurate, competitive and commercially robust submissions rather than a defined people-management role. Working closely with commercial, operational and bid colleagues, you will help assess opportunities, manage tender activity and support the successful mobilisation of secured projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing detailed cost estimates, tender pricing and commercial submissions.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, schedules and tender documentation.
- Obtaining, comparing and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Developing cost plans, pricing strategies and tender adjudication reports.
- Identifying commercial risks, opportunities and potential cost pressures.
- Supporting bid/no-bid decisions and coordinating pricing across multiple tenders.
- Managing tender queries, qualifications and clarifications.
- Contributing to win strategies and value-engineering proposals.
- Supporting client interviews and tender presentations when required.
- Working with project teams during mobilisation and handover.
- Supporting procurement activity and early subcontractor engagement.
- Maintaining accurate estimating records, cost data and benchmarking information.
- Capturing lessons learned from tender outcomes and completed projects.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Proven estimating experience within refurbishment, planned maintenance or construction.
- Experience working with public-sector procurement or tendering processes.
- Strong commercial awareness and cost-analysis skills.
- Confidence preparing detailed estimates and pricing submissions.
- Experience obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical tender information.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- The ability to manage several tenders and competing deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- A structured, accurate and well-organised approach.
- A full UK driving licence.
Preferred Experience
- Experience estimating social housing projects.
- Knowledge of retrofit, energy efficiency or decarbonisation works.
- Mechanical and electrical building services knowledge.
- A qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
What the Role Requires
Within this Senior Estimator position, you will be expected to work independently while collaborating closely with bid, commercial and operational teams. You should be comfortable analysing complex information, challenging assumptions and maintaining a high level of accuracy under tender deadlines. The role would suit someone who takes a practical approach to problem-solving, communicates well with internal teams and supply-chain partners, and understands how strong estimating supports both project delivery and commercial performance.
Salary and Benefits
- Competitive salary.
- 24 days annual holiday.
- Pension with a 4% salary-sacrifice scheme and employer contribution.
- Death-in-service benefit of four times salary.
- Employee Assistance Programme.
- Health Cash Plan.
- Enhanced family-friendly policies.
- Long-service awards.
