We're WorkFin, a UK fintech building a modern finance platform for dental practices. We handle the full finance function for our clients: bookkeeping, payroll, pensions, management accounts, and prep through to final accounts. Our delivery team in India does the heavy lifting day-to-day. We're looking for an experienced UK bookkeeper to be the bridge: reviewing their work, supporting them, and being the trusted point of contact for our UK clients.
This is a hands-on role for someone who's done the full bookkeeping job, not a management role above the work. We're a fully remote team.
Who we think you are
- You've been doing bookkeeping for years, probably for several small businesses at once. Maybe as a self-employed bookkeeper juggling 5 to 10 clients, or at a small accountancy practice.
- You've handled the lot: bank recs, payroll runs, pension auto-enrolment, basic HR admin, monthly management accounts, and prep right through to year-end and final accounts.
- You know your way around Xero and Sage like the back of your hand.
- You're tired of juggling clients and want a stable, full-time role with one team, but you still want variety and client contact.
- You're a confident communicator. You can sit on a call with a practice owner and explain why their numbers look the way they do. You can also send a clear, kind message to a colleague in India explaining what needs fixing and why.
What you'll actually do day-to-day
- Review and quality-check the work coming from our bookkeeping team in India: reconciliations, journals, ledgers, management accounts. Catch the mistakes before clients see them.
- Support and coach the India team. Answer their questions, explain UK-specific quirks (HMRC, payroll rules, pension rules, dental sector nuances), help them get better.
- Run point with UK clients. Onboarding new dental practices, getting their books set up cleanly, being their go-to contact alongside our Ops Director.
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors at year-end. Answer queries, pull reports, make sure handovers are smooth.
- Own the tricky stuff that needs a UK bookkeeper's eye: payroll reviews, pension submissions, management accounts sign-off, draft year-end packs.
- Onboard new clients with our Ops Director. Data migration, opening balances, getting Xero or Sage set up properly.
The experience we're looking for
- 5+ years hands-on UK bookkeeping, ideally across multiple clients (practice background or multi-client self-employed both great).
- Confident running the full cycle: bank recs, payroll, pensions, management accounts, trial balance, final accounts prep.
- Solid Xero and/or Sage experience (QuickBooks a bonus).
- Comfortable with UK payroll software (BrightPay, Sage Payroll, Xero Payroll, etc.) and pension portals (NEST, Smart, People's Pension).
- Good written English. You'll be sending a lot of clear, friendly messages to the India team and to clients.
- Comfortable working fully remotely. Self-starter, good at managing your own time, happy collaborating over Microsoft Teams and video calls.
- AAT Level 3 or 4, or ICB qualified is great but not essential. Experience matters more.
- Dental sector experience a bonus, not required.
What we're not looking for
- Qualified accountants (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) looking for an ops role. This isn't that.
- Pure management accountants who haven't touched bookkeeping in years.
- Anyone who hasn't run payroll themselves.
Why this might suit you
- One employer, steady income, no chasing invoices from your own clients.
- Fully remote. Work from anywhere in the UK.
- Real variety. Every dental practice is a bit different.
- You'll be the senior UK voice in the team. Your judgement matters.
- Modern tech stack, no paper, no faff.
- Genuine path to grow as we scale.
Package
- Competitive salary based on experience (happy to discuss range early).
- Pension, bonus, generous holiday.
- Fully remote (UK-based).
- Occasional travel to meet clients and the India team.
If you've been running the books for a handful of small businesses and want to bring that experience into a growing fintech where your work is properly valued, we'd love to hear from you.
