Responsibilities

  • Identify and comply with digital Tachograph operation and drivers' hours' legislation.
  • Maintain understanding and compliance with the Working Time Directive for mobile workers; observe statutory break periods, record all breaks using the tachograph, and prioritise driver’s hours rules over WTD rules.
  • Ensure all loading and unloading activity is carried out safely; position and secure loads to avoid overloading axles and prevent movement during transit, including manual handling of hoses.
  • Be aware of scheduled 6‑weekly safety inspection timetable and liaise with the Manager and garage to book inspections.
  • Carry out daily maintenance and defect checks of the vehicle according to the Daily Vehicle Defect Check Report; report defects promptly to the Manager and continually monitor the vehicle for emerging defects such as warning lights.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Full LGV driving licence (no more than 6 points) and Class 2 licence.
  • HIAB/ALMI certification.
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar industry.
  • Over 21 years of age (for insurance purposes).
  • Good level of physical fitness to load and unload vehicles at customer sites and Selwood branches.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with the hire desk, colleagues, and customers.
  • Self‑motivated, strong work ethic, and a commitment to health & safety standards.
  • Compliance with Department of Transport Regulations and the Highway Code.
