We have an exciting opportunity for a Document Checker to join our Document Checking team, based in A&O Shearman’s Belfast Office.

Please note, the working hours for this position will be Sunday to Thursday, 9:00am - 17:30pm.

Document Checking team – Belfast Business Services consists of the following teams: The Bridge, Document Production, Document Checking, Central Records, Central Scanning and E-Bibles, Practice Support, Office Assistants, and the Print Room.

The Document Checking team sits within the Document Services department.

Document checkers' main focus is proofreading documents for the global network, overseeing and maintaining the high quality of documents in accordance with the needs of the department's clients.

What you will do Proofread a wide range of documents for spelling, sense and grammar in accordance with house style guides or bespoke client requirements, ensuring the highest standard of documentation.

Carry out other checking tasks, in line with standard departmental practice, to ensure that the quality of documentation is in line with the expectations of the firm.

Implement instructions from the department's clients, clarifying queries as appropriate, following the required administrative and technical procedures.

Provide advice for clients on the use of English language or house style issues and editing documents to improve readability if requested.

Provide guidance to other functions within the firm on writing style, formatting and use of the English language.

Keep personal workload under active review, providing updates and pertinent information in real time to facilitate smooth execution/handover of ongoing projects.

Provide occasional cover for workflow coordination duties in the absence of the workflow coordinator, involving scheduling of work within the team and liaising with clients to discuss job requirements Flexibility with regard to work location and working hours.

It may sometimes be a requirement to work in the London office for special projects and training.

Although training will be provided on shift whenever possible, it may be necessary to attend certain training courses off shift.

What you will have Legal, financial or similar professional proofreading experience preferred.

Eye for detail and experience of working on complex technical documents.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management systems, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.

Experience of working in a deadline-driven environment, ideally 24/7.

Proven experience of providing support in a client services environment.
