An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV Fitter / Mechanic to join a busy workshop team. This role is primarily focused on the maintenance and repair of a modern fleet of heavy goods vehicles and associated plant machinery. This position is ideal for a skilled mechanic who takes pride in delivering high quality workmanship while maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, service, and repair HGVs and associated plant equipment.
- Carry out Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on fleet vehicles.
- Identify and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
- Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and statutory inspections.
- Accurately record repairs, defects, and workshop time.
- Maintain a safe, organised, and compliant workshop environment, including adherence to COSHH regulations.
- Liaise with the Workshop Manager regarding parts and stock.
- Provide technical support and advice regarding vehicle defects and breakdowns.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an HGV Fitter, HGV Technician, or HGV Mechanic.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Sound knowledge of HGV systems, including engines, braking systems, suspension, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Competent in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and wiring schematics.
- Full UK Driving Licence is essential.
