The Work Rights Centre (WoRC) is seeking a Finance Trustee (Treasurer) to join its Board of Trustees. This is a unique opportunity to support a growing charity and work with a dedicated Trustee Board of experts in employment, immigration and public law, communications and academia. You will help ensure resources are managed effectively to maximise social impact and support lasting change. The Board meets four times per year (online, typically 90 minutes). Our annual Vision Day is held in person, with some remote sessions for Trustees. Once a quarter, before each main board meeting, a small Resource Committee (including the Treasurer and Deputy CEO) reviews the charity’s financial position and fundraising targets.

WoRC is a frontline charity dedicated to ending precarious work and social exclusion. Since 2016 we have supported thousands of migrants and disadvantaged Britons to recover unpaid wages, fight workplace discrimination, and secure their immigration status. We combine frontline work with research and policy engagement to advocate for systemic change. In 2025 we recovered over £170k for exploited workers and helped hundreds understand and secure their status in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Finance Trustee (Treasurer) on the Board of Trustees and participate in strategic financial governance.
  • Attend four quarterly Board meetings (online) and participate in the annual Vision Day (in person) or remotely as available.
  • Participate in the quarterly Resource Committee (with the Treasurer and Deputy CEO) to review the charity’s financial position and fundraising targets.
  • Ensure resources are managed effectively to maximise impact and support strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • Charity finance experience: a solid understanding of charity SORP, restricted/unrestricted funding, and voluntary sector governance.
  • Strategic vision: ability to translate financial awareness into strategic advice for non-finance board members.
  • Passion for justice: genuine commitment to the rights of migrants and workers in the UK. Applications from individuals with lived experience of the issues we tackle are particularly welcome.
