Senior Therapy Assistant

If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for you to work as a Band 3 Senior Therapy Assistant within the therapy team here at Bedford Hospital.
Due to career progression of previous post holders we now have multiple posts available within our Orthopaedic/Surgical Therapy Team on a part time basis (perfect for those juggling the school run)
The Senior therapy assistants support, assess, and treat patients to facilitate their recovery in hospital to promote a transition back into the community.
The Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams specialise in complex assessment and discharge planning throughout the hospital.
As a Senior Therapy Assistant, you will work as part of the larger MDT in order help to cover the wards within the Bedford site. You will need to be able to work in an autonomous way to facilitate good communication and effectively link with multiple on site and external teams.
Main duties of the job
You will be able to assess, and if appropriate implement activities, treatments and exercises, liaising with families and the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve the common goal of facilitating a safe and effective discharge.
You will also be monitoring and adjusting treatments/interventions and reviewing patients on an ongoing basis.
High quality clinical supervision is provided for all our staff. You will be supported with your professional development and training by your team. We also offer robust training opportunities as part of the team and on a wider scale within Bedford Hospital.
We are excited to announce that we are now providing apprenticeship opportunities internally within the therapy service. This presents an exciting opportunity for staff to pursue formal undergraduate training to become qualified physiotherapists/occupational therapists in the near future (subject to required qualifications). This post may be the right stepping stone for you!
This job role does require staff to participate in occasional weekend working on a rota basis. This service helps to improve the continuity of care for our patients as well as maintaining the flow of patients through the hospital service.

- To implement patient treatment working within established guidelines for defined client group.

Qualifications
- Good standard of education
- GCSE Grade C English or equivalent
Experience
- Experience of working with patients/clients in a previous job role
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Previous experience of working within a hospital setting
Knowledge and Abilities
- Able to demonstrate knowledge regarding the role of a Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist as a profession and how they can help improve patient care and outcomes
- Empathy, able to communicate with patients, relatives, carers and external agencies
- Ability to cope with stressful situations/ environments and with emotional or aggressive patients/carers and remain professional
- Good basic working knowledge of medical conditions and how they affect patients
