Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust requires a highly motivated, reliable and flexible Maintenance Assistant to work as a key member of the Estates Team. You will play a proactive role within the team, delivering key objectives to meet both departmental and Trust requirements. The post holder will assist the Estates Directorate to provide a comprehensive and responsive Estate Management Service to all of the Trust's properties. You will be a hands-on maintenance assistant who is able to deliver the full range of duties associated with the post holder's core craft trade.
Main duties of the job:
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance checks and repairs on engineering plant, equipment and the building fabric.
Job responsibilities:
- Carry out basic electrical, mechanical and building works e.g. replacing lamps, repairing nurse call handsets, unblocking sinks, basic plumbing repairs, replacing ceiling tiles, simple joinery and decoration.
Person Specification:
- Civil Engineering / Building background
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary maintenance workforce ideally within the NHS
- Basic IT skills
- Working on own initiative with minimum supervision
- Ability to prioritise a demanding workload
- Fault finding skills of a building nature
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management, staff, patients and members of the public
- Willingness to accept training and learn new skills and technology
