Join our forward‑thinking team as a Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician within our dynamic Critical Care and Theatre services at the Luton and Dunstable site. This exciting role offers the opportunity to support clinical pharmacy services within a 22‑bed critical care unit, caring for patients with complex needs requiring multi‑organ support. You will work closely with specialist pharmacists to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care across both critical care and operating theatres.

You will play a key role in maintaining and developing the clinical pharmacy service, alongside contributing to management and training responsibilities within the team. This is a varied and rewarding position that offers excellent scope to build on your existing skills. We are seeking a motivated, organised and proactive technician with experience working collaboratively across clinical specialties. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, as you will be working closely with nursing and pharmacy colleagues to ensure safe and effective patient care.

Main duties of the job:
  • To support the delivery of a high quality medicines management service to the Critical Care and Anaesthetics Clinical Service Line including dispensing and issuing prescriptions as the need arises. This will involve accredited checking of prescriptions, drug history taking, patient counselling and providing advice to other healthcare professionals.
  • To undertake a supervisory role and line management responsibility of Senior and Medicines Management Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants within the pharmacy department.
  • To provide training in pharmacy procedures and pharmacy stock control and electronic prescribing systems use to all members of staff.
  • To provide straightforward advice on pharmaceutical products and supply and work closely with other healthcare professionals at ward level.
  • To support with recruitment and selection process for Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants.
  • To provide induction training to new staff clinical staff.
  • To act as a professional role model for Senior and Medicines Management and pharmacy assistants, actively demonstrating integrity, ownership and leadership in all aspects of the role.
  • To support the relevant Principal, Lead and Specialist Pharmacists and the Principal Pharmacy Technician, Clinical Services as appropriate.
Person Specification:Experience:
  • Worked as a ward‑based medicines management technician.
  • Experience of supervising staff.
  • Experience of developing and delivering staff education and training.
  • Experience of developing SOPs.
  • Experience of participating in Quality Improvement work.
Skills:
  • Ability to organise day to day work tasks for self and others.
  • Self‑motivated and organised.
  • Reliable and trustworthy.
  • Ability to deal sensitively with challenging situations.
  • Ability to work within a larger team.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
Qualifications:
  • Level 3 NVQ in Pharmacy Service Skills.
  • AIMM accreditation or relevant equivalent.
  • Train the trainer.
  • Member of APTUK.
