Are you a passionate and dedicated Registered Children's Nurse looking for an exciting opportunity in emergency care? The Paediatric Emergency Department (ED) at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital is recruiting to the nursing team. You'll receive full support to build confidence in assessing, recognising, and managing sick children in an emergency setting.
In July 2023, we moved into a newly developed Paediatric ED, featuring a dedicated Paediatric High Dependency Unit (HDU) room and a CAMHS room, located adjacent to our Adult ED. This modern environment supports high-quality care and a collaborative working culture.

Main duties of the job
Professional Responsibilities
- Assess patient care needs and support the development and implementation of programmes of patient care; participate in the evaluation of these programmes.
- Ensure a high standard of nursing care is performed at all times and assist in the review and regular update of these standards.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to changes in the patient's condition and safety.
- Administer oral drugs safely and independently in line with NMC and Trust policy guidelines.
- Adhere to principles of infection control.
- Communicate basic care information and answer queries.
- Undertake intravenous drug therapy administration, training if required.
Job description
The post holder will provide a high standard of nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of patient care. The role involves working closely with the department/ward manager and multidisciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care, staff and service development within the department/ward environment.
