SSSC is the regulator for the social service workforce in Scotland. The SSSC protects the public by registering social service workers, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education and by supporting their professional development. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct, SSSC can investigate and take action .

ROLE SUMMARY

The Council has corporate responsibility for ensuring SSSC fulfils the aims and objectives set by Scottish Ministers; and for promoting effective and accountable governance. The overall role of a Council Member is to provide strategic leadership and direction focused on agreed outcomes.

The successful appointee will be given a training plan, continuous support and mentorship within the Council. This includes the opportunity to participate in a ‘buddying’ programme where you will be paired up with another Council Member, allowing you to gain insight, knowledge and aid you in performing in the role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Public Appointees are responsible for:

  • ensuring that the public body delivers its functions in accordance with Scottish Ministers’ policies and priorities
  • providing strategic leadership
  • ensuring financial stewardship

holding the Chief Executive and senior management team to account

We are seeking someone who can meet the following criteria:

Priority criteria

Experience in finance and audit

Alongside the essential criteria of:

Ability to analyse and review complex issues to reach conclusions;

Working co-operatively and collaboratively; and

The applicants who most closely meet the requirements being sought will be invited to the final assessment stage. The scheduled date is 20 May 2026 in Dundee.

The closing date for applications is17:00 on Thursday 23 April 2026.

REMUNERATION AND TIME COMMITMENT

This position attracts a remuneration rate of £220 per day and Members are expected to give a commitment of a minimum of 3 days a month on council business, some of which may be in the evenings or weekends. This appointment is for 3 years commencing from early August 2026.
