An online lighting retailer selling through its own websites and a range of online marketplaces is looking for an organised, proactive Operations Manager to lead day-to-day operations and help build the processes and team capability to support continued growth. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will work alongside the outgoing Operations Manager for a two-month handover, after which you will run daily operations independently.

You will take ownership of the operation, ensuring orders, deliveries, customer enquiries, refunds, returns and supplier payments are handled accurately and on time. You will organise and support the team, monitor performance and resolve problems. As you establish control of daily operations, your focus will increasingly move towards improving processes and helping the business scale.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations, overseeing the order journey from purchase to delivery and ensuring service standards are met
  • Lead the team: allocate work, check quality, give feedback, hold regular catch-ups and arrange cover and cross-training
  • Oversee supplier payments, customer refunds and returns
  • Identify and resolve problems, checking operational data and following through with suppliers, couriers and marketplaces
  • Maintain clear processes, including standard operating procedures and supplier information
  • Improve how the business operates, recommending better tools, automation and appropriate uses of AI
  • Support operational growth, including setting up new suppliers and marketplaces and leading recruitment, onboarding and training once approved
  • Provide a concise weekly update on performance, exceptions and decisions needed

Person Specification:

  • 5+ years of operational management experience
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Ability to organise a team's workload, give feedback and manage performance
  • Confidence with Google Sheets, including filtering, sorting and formulas such as SUMIF, COUNTIF and lookup functions
  • Confidence using inventory management systems
  • Ability to interpret operational data and write clear, step-by-step procedures
  • Sound judgement about when to act independently and when to involve management
  • Experience in e-commerce, marketplaces, supplier coordination, helpdesk systems, process improvement or recruitment would be helpful
