We are currently looking for a Medical Summariser to join our friendly, GP Practice team in East London. The post holder will be responsible for the read coding of relevant information into patients\’ electronic healthcare records on EMIS clinical system, adhering to the organisation coding policy. In addition, the post holder will also support the multi-disciplinary team, providing administrative support as required, in line with the needs of the organisation.
Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the Medical Summariser. There may be on a occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks, depending on the needs of the Practice. This will be dependent on factors such as workload and staffing levels.
The main duties are:
1. To be responsible for the coding of relevant information into patients electronic medical records on EMIS web clinical system.
2. Reviewing medical records and producing an accurate summary of the patients medical history.
3. Read coding the information into the practice clinical system.
4. Auditing data collection standards in the practice monitoring progress of notes summarising against practice targets.
5. Streamlining the flow of clinical correspondence through the organization reducing the number of letters with a GP needs to process. Where there is uncertainty, to forward the letter to a clinician for safety.
6. To maintain patient confidentiality at all times, to respect patient\’s privacy and act appropriately in the performance of the duties outlined in this post.
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Medical Summariser may be requested to:
1. Review and update the Practice summarising policy as required, in conjunction with the Management team and Partners

We are a friendly GP Practice based in East London with a list size of 12,000 patients. We are a friendly, supportive, teaching, patient-centred practice committed to providing excellent patient care to the local community.
We have 3 GP Partners, 1 Salaried GP, 4 Long-term Locum Locum GPs, 3 Practice Nurses, 2 Clinical Pharmacists, 1 Pharmacy Technician, 2 Physiotherapists, 1 Paramedic, 1 Social Prescriber, 1 Mental Health Occupational Therapist and 1 Nursing Associate.
We offer in-house services such as Phlebotomy, ECGs and Travel Injections.
We have a large building to accomodate our patients and services. Car park is available and East Ham underground station is a 5 minute walk from the Practice.
Job responsibilities

Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually) reporting potential risks identified. Demonstrate due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Experience
- Experience working as a Medical Summariser in a GP Practice using EMIS WEB for at least 1 year
- Admin experience in Health Care
