Training course: Engineering and manufacturing support technician (level 3).
Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 17:00 including 1-hour unpaid lunch. 37 hours 30 minutes a week.
Start date: Monday 3 August 2026.
Duration: 4 years.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.
What you’ll do at work:
- Produce CAD drawings in 2D and 3D, using Peps and Visi, for customers and the tooling factories.
- Create the CAM programs, using PEPS, for the UK factory to manufacture the tooling.
- Discuss customer requirements directly with them via telephone and email.
- Evaluate solutions and costs for customer enquiries.
- Discuss tooling technicalities and solutions with the factory, understanding the manufacturing process at our factory.
- Produce technical quotations for the proposed solutions for customers.
- Complete tooling quotations including technical specification, drawings and pricing for our demanding customers.
- Learn the basic programming language for the Amada Turret Punch Press.
- Produce samples and complete tests for punch tooling in the Amada showroom.
Training:
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
Follow health and safety regulations, standards, and guidance. Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance.
Analyse engineering and manufacturing data and information to support technical outputs. Apply scientific, technical or engineering principles. Apply problem‑solving techniques to solutions for identified technical problems.
Organise, plan and prioritise workflow and scheduling of work with stakeholders. Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, considering cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact.
Provide support and guidance for handover of work to stakeholders. Record information – paper based or electronic.
Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, which is located in Worcester (WR4 9GN): Years 1/2 are a combination of off‑the‑job training at HWGTA Training Centre, as well as training on‑site with your employer.
Years 3/4 based fully‑time in the company, developing skills in preparation for the end‑point assessment to gain your Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician Level 3 qualification.
You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set your work, monitor your development and well‑being, and discuss training sessions.
Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if needed.
Requirements:
- GCSE in Mathematics (grade A*-C/5‑9).
- GCSE in Science (grade A*-C/4‑9).
- Strong work ethic.
- Smart and professional.
- Enthusiasm & self‑motivated.
