As an apprentice HGV Technician in Müller Milk & Ingredients Distribution, you will learn how to inspect and maintain our HGV fleet to comply with Legal & Company Standards. It is a hands-on role where you will learn all aspects of assisting our workshop employees in looking after our HGVs.
Annual increases to the hourly rate throughout the duration of the programme.
Training course: Heavy vehicle service and maintenance technician (level 3)
Hours: You will work shifts Monday - Friday between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, shifts to be confirmed. 40 hours a week
Start date: Monday 7 September 2026
Duration: 3 years
What you’ll do at work:
- Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and transport to Test Centres as required
- Record vehicle defects and keep accurate records of minor accident works carried out on each vehicle
- Assist our workshop employees in all aspects of looking after our HGVs
- Learn about maintenance, a tidy workplace and Health and Safety processes and procedures to ensure you work safely within our workshops

Training course: Heavy vehicle service and maintenance technician (level 3)
You will carry out basic tasks with tools and equipment common to all procedures involving basic mechanical and electrical procedures related to HV. You will contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop and adhere to the company and legislative processes. You will access specific and related HV technical information appropriately and service, inspect and maintain HVs and trailers to meet company, Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and manufacturers’ standards. You will use a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HVs, successfully inspect and prepare vehicles and trailers to meet DVSA standards prescribed in the tester’s manual, and carry out final quality checks before handover to the customer without supervision.
You will apply advanced diagnostic principles and logical/problem solving techniques and regimes, maintain records to company and operators’ licence obligations and regulation, and communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums both internally and with customers on a range of topics that will support HV inspection and diagnosing techniques.
