We are looking for a suitably qualified motivated and enthusiastic individualto join the Pathology IT team as the Deputy Pathology IT Manager within Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHSTrust to support Pathology IT systems. WAHT Pathology IT are primarily based atWorcestershire Royal Hospital with our essential site located at the AlexandraHospital in Redditch.

The Pathology IT team is a highly important component forthe efficient functioning of the laboratory and this role will be a keyaddition to the team who are responsible for its on-going support, maintenance anddevelopment.

You will join a team of efficient and dedicated staffmembers who provide technical support for service developments to ensure smoothand seamless transition to the adoption of new technologies within Pathology.This role will support Pathology IT with interface support, user accountcreation, planning and implementation of system upgrades and provide businessintelligence support for the Directorate to ensure data is readily available,accurate and usable.

As part of Pathology governance it is important to maintainhigh standards within Pathology IT and this role will support qualityimprovement to drive services forward, and engage with stakeholders within theTrust, other hospitals and users to ensure full compliance is achieved withworking relationships being created successfully.

Main duties of the job

To deputise for the Pathology IT Manager when needed and manage the implementations, maintenance and development of the pathology computer systems.

To maintain and develop key aspects of the LaboratoryInformation Management Systems (LIMS) to ensure the timely and accuratereporting of diagnostic results to support efficient clinical patient care,both in the Acute Trust and Primary Care.

To monitor Pathology system stability and performance usingLIMS dashboard (Clinisys Control Console) and feedback any issues to PathologyIT team and Pathology teams accordingly.

The post holder will assist in providing technical supporton all Pathology IT matters liaising with the Pathology IT team, DirectorateManager, Clinical Service Leads, Laboratory Managers, Biomedical Scientists andMedical Laboratory Assistants.

Attend regular meetings where Pathology IT is expected toparticipate.

In consultation with Pathology IT Manager, LaboratoryManagers and / or Directorate Manager, take timely and effective decisions inresponse to changing circumstances to maintain service provision, IT orequipment failure

Contribute to the development of departmental policies andgood quality management practices and quality improvement.

Participate in providing support out of hours for Pathologyas and when required by the Pathology directorate., To maintain and develop key aspects of LaboratoryInformation Management Systems (LIMS) to ensure the timely and accuratereporting of diagnostic results to support efficient clinical patient care,both in the Acute Trust and Primary Care.

Monitor Pathology system stability and performance usingLIMS dashboard (Clinisys Control Console) and feedback any issues to PathologyIT team and Pathology teams accordingly.

Log new system issues with relevant third party and monitorcall progress providing effective communication regarding call status withPathology IT and Laboratory teams.

To maintain the LIMS on daily, weekly and monthly basis byperforming standard procedures across the system and logging completion oftasks accordingly.

To maintain system records of current and new users,applying agreed appropriate levels of access and removing staff leavers fromthe system.

To maintain all cross-discipline system dictionaries (GPs, Consultants, Locations etc).

To attend any meetings or user groups pertaining to IT andundertake actions from those meetings as required.

To produce activity data reports when required forDirectorate Manager or appropriate in order to monitor performance for WAHT,particularly against Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

The post holder will support on the business intelligencesupport for the Directorate to ensure data is readily available, accurate andusable.

To assist the Pathology IT team in the management of thelaboratory portion of the GP electronic links pathway.

To use the Laboratory and Trust computer systems accordingto the authorised protocols for example data and result entry, data retrievaland data manipulation.

To use, and ensure that others use, the LaboratoryInformation System according to the authorised protocols to record analyserresults and patient data.

To provide advice and technical support for informationtechnology issues for all Pathology the following departments.

In consultation with Pathology IT Manager, LaboratoryManagers and / or Directorate Manager, take timely and effective decisions inresponse to changing circumstances to maintain service provision, IT orequipment failure

Contribute to the development of departmental policies andgood quality management practices and quality improvement.

Participate in providing support out of hours for Pathologyas and when required by the Pathology directorate.

The post holder will assist in providing technical supporton all Pathology IT matters liaising with the Pathology IT team, DirectorateManager, Clinical Service Leads, Laboratory Managers, Biomedical Scientists andMedical Laboratory Assistants.

To co-ordinate and assist in theinstall / replacements / upgrades (as appropriate) IT hardware across alldepartments of the service or liaise with Service Providers appropriately.

To maintain aspects of the Document Scanning and Archivesystem. This includes trouble-shooting and repair in the event of systemfailures.

Review IT related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) andpolicies to ensure compliance with good working practices required for UKASstandards ISO 15189.

Conduct appropriate trouble-shooting and take correctiveaction in the event of a systems failure and ensure that the Pathology IT team,Laboratory Managers, Directorate Manager and / or Clinical Service Leads are madeaware of these circumstances.

Organise and co-ordinate third party engineer on-site visitsas appropriate.

Liaise closely with the Trust Digital team colleaguessupporting with any hardware, network, infrastructure issues affecting theperformance of Pathology IT systems.

To produce activity data reports when required forDirectorate Manager or appropriate in order to monitor performance for WAHT,particularly against Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

The post holder will support on the business intelligencesupport for the Directorate to ensure data is readily available, accurate andusable.

Ensure that all IT downtime and problem logs are regularlyreviewed and reported to the Pathology IT Services Manager.

Ensure the process of incident reporting is followed when ITfailures occur by reporting appropriately using the Trust incident reportingportal (DATIX)

To assist in the investigation all complaints associatedwith IT failures and provide report for IT Manager.

To undertake document control including Change Control,record keeping & corrective actions pertaining to Pathology IT.

To initiate and undertake internal audits appropriately andfollow through any actions identified or relevant pertaining Pathology ITServices.

To undertake the assessment of the IT impact of certain newmethod and laboratory instrument evaluations as requested by the IT Manager.

To assist the Pathology IT team in the assessment of the ITrequirements in the development of service and instrument specifications andundertake aspects of the evaluation of tender responses.

To assist in the implementation of new equipment officeor laboratory based equipment in conjunction with the Pathology Department / s.

Provide IT support for service development projects asdirected by the Pathology IT Services Manager, a laboratory manager and / orclinical service lead.

Deliver in house training and tutorial support to biomedicalscientists, trainees, medical laboratory assistants, medical students,specialist registrars and visiting professionals and students from within theTrust and from external organisations.

To be familiar with and ensure compliance to national, Trustand departmental Health and Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations,for example, the Trust and departmental health and safety policys, Control ofSubstances Hazardous to Health, Risk Assessment, and manual handling.

Review and update IT risk assessments / register and report tothe IT Manager.

To contribute to the maintenance of a safe workingenvironment for all members of staff and visitors.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in managing and troubleshooting various IT systems

  • Evidence of experience at a supervisory level

  • Demonstrable involvement in staff management, development and training

  • Good knowledge and experience in managing NHS IT systems

  • Experience of delivering projects and implementing IT related systems

Desirable

  • Experience of working in Pathology

  • Previous management of a Pathology IT service

  • Experience of Clinisys WinPath LIMS

  • Experience of Clinisys ICE, * Educated to degree level or equivalent

  • Further Professional Qualification in Biomedical Sciences or IT subject
