Cardiovascular Imaging Fellow

Applications are invited for our post Completion of Training (CCT) Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship based at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. This post is for a fixed term period of 1 year, with the potential to extend for a further year. Applications from ST6+ (or equivalent) would be welcomed.

You should have full MRCP and a minimum of five years cardiology experience.

The post-holder will undertake weekend day cardiology cover on a 1:6 basis at Alexandra Hospital Redditch.

Main duties of the job:

• You will undertake up to 7 clinical sessions of multimodality cardiovascular imaging (Cardiac MRI, Advanced Echocardiography and CT Coronary Angiography). The uniqueness of this fellowship is the successful candidate will have the opportunity to focus on specific modalities and create an individual training program designed to allow the fellow to achieve their goals/accreditation.
• As the Cardiovascular Imaging Fellow, you will be involved in the governance aspects of non-invasive imaging and help run the MDT.
• The expectation of the imaging fellow will be that they are independent in transthoracic echocardiography to the level of the British Society of Echocardiography accreditation or equivalence. The fellow will be expected to support junior trainees in transthoracic echocardiography training.
• The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in audit and research within the department.
• The successful candidate will undertake one general cardiology outpatient clinic, semi-autonomously (with support from a consultant as required).
• The successful candidate will also contribute to the running of the acute cardiology referrals service and/or Worcestershire Heart Centre (ambulatory Cardiology unit).

The typical candidate should be post CCT from an accredited cardiology training program. Applications will be considered from those near completion. The successful applicant will hold full MRCP, with a minimum of five years cardiology experience. The candidate would also be expected to be able to perform transthoracic echocardiography independently and ideally should be British Society Echocardiography accredited or equivalence.

The role would support a senior fellow/resident doctor to build independence in their practice with support as required. The successful candidate would undertake general cardiology duties in the form of a general cardiology clinic (Kidderminster or Worcester), support Worcester Heart Centre (ambulatory Cardiology Unit) and support the weekend on-call in general cardiology.

Support will be given to attend regional and national meetings of interest to a cardiovascular imaging fellow.

The cardiology service is supported by strong teams of physiologists, CCU and cardiology ward nurses, cardiac assessment nurses and cardiac rehabilitation nurses, and by a county-wide nurse-led rapid-access chest pain clinic.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

• MBBS or equivalent
• MRCP (full)
• ALS provider
• Eligible for full GMC registration with Licence to Practise at the time of appointment
• Completion of specialist training and entry onto GMC specialist register in Cardiology (near completion of training will be considered)
• British Society of Echocardiography Transthoracic Accreditation or Equivalent

Experience:

• At least 5 years full time or equivalent postgraduate training, at least 4 years of which will be in a Cardiology training programme and have completed it (or be near completion).
• At least 5 years clinical experience within post-graduate Cardiology
• Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty and sufficient experience
• Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

Desirable:

• Experience in TOE and Stress Echocardiography
• Experience in Cardiac CT
• Experience in Cardiac MRI

Management and Administrative Experience:

• Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
• Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit

Research Experience:

• Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
• An awareness of current specialty specific developments and initiatives.

Teaching Experience:

• Ability to organise and deliver teaching across the whole undergraduate curriculum.
• Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
• Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
• Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation and completion of audit projects.
