About the Opportunity
Worcester City Councils Community Safety Team work together to reduce crime and anti‑social behaviour in Worcester City. The team responds to reports of youth related anti‑social behaviour across Worcester and aims to engage with the young people involved, diverting them away from ASB into other purposeful activities. The Youth Intervention Team offers a Youth Intervention Officer position. The successful applicant will have good communication skills and a commitment to understanding and addressing the needs of young people, with the overall aim of preventing anti‑social behaviour.
Working Hours & Conditions
The role operates on a rota providing proactive and reactive engagement for young people over 7 days, including some evenings. Each session lasts approximately 1½ hours, mainly early/late evenings and weekends. The working time will be 18 hours per week on a fixed‑term contract until 31 March 2028. Training will be provided where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a mediation service between young people, police and communities in targeted hot spot areas.
- Work in a productive and proactive way to reduce anti‑social behaviour and divert young people into more appropriate leisure time activities.
- Deliver consequence and other youth‑specific training and/or group sessions in educational settings.
- Main operation out of office hours; the postholder may experience confrontational situations.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have/be:
- Educated to NVQ level 3 or appropriate work experience
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literate with good keyboard skills
- Good time management and personal organisation skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Able to use initiative to respond to problems and unexpected situations
- Experience of producing meeting and project documentation
- Experience of working in community engagement/Safety/Youth or a related field
- Experience of working in a busy customer‑focused environment
- A current full and valid UK driving licence
- Able to work unsociable hours, on an ad‑hoc basis
- To be able to problem‑solve in response to community and individual need.
