The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.

37 Hours per week, Monday through to Friday. There will be a contractual requirement to work ‘catch up days’ following bank holidays or periods of inclement weather. Based at Warndon Depot, Sixways, Worcester, WR4 0AA.

Help Keep Worcester Clean, Safe and Sustainable. Worcester City Council is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and organised Waste & Recycling Supervisor to join our Environmental Operations Team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in waste, recycling or environmental services who enjoys leading people, solving problems and delivering high-quality frontline services to our residents and businesses.

As a Waste & Recycling Supervisor, you will play a key role in overseeing daily collection operations, supporting frontline crews, maintaining service standards and helping drive continuous improvement across our waste, recycling and trade waste services. No two days are the same, and you will be at the heart of delivering one of the Council's most visible and important services.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Supervising waste, recycling and trade waste collection crews.
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of daily collection rounds.
  • Monitoring service performance and resolving operational issues.
  • Managing service disruptions and responding to customer enquiries and complaints.
  • Undertaking site visits, inspections and operational audits.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety requirements, Safe Systems of Work and Council policies.
  • Supporting investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses and service failures.
  • Assisting with staff training, inductions and performance management.
  • Liaising with residents, elected members, contractors and partner organisations.
  • Using IT systems to monitor performance, record information and produce reports.
  • Supporting recycling initiatives, contamination reduction and environmental improvement projects.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience supervising teams within a waste, recycling, environmental or operational service.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • Experience of undertaking investigations, absence management and performance management processes.
  • Ability to motivate and support frontline employees.
  • Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
  • Experience using electronic management systems and performance data.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and make sound operational decisions.
  • Experience dealing with customer enquiries and complaints.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Good geographical knowledge and ability to understand collection routes and service delivery requirements.
  • A positive, flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • HGV Class 2 (Category C) Licence.
  • Knowledge of waste and recycling collection services.
  • Knowledge of trade waste operations and commercial waste legislation.
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and waste management best practice.
  • Experience within a local authority waste service.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
