Worcester City Council is seeking an experienced and suitably trained Crematorium Operative to provide short-term operational support during the remobilisation of Astwood Crematorium. The successful candidate will be competent and experienced in the safe operation of cremation equipment and able to work with limited supervision within a busy bereavement service. They must understand the importance of accurate procedures, regulatory compliance and maintaining the highest standards of dignity and respect. The role will include operating and monitoring cremators, undertaking routine operational checks, maintaining accurate cremation records, handling cremated remains and supporting the safe and orderly running of the crematory. The officer will also be expected to undertake chapel duties when required. This will include receiving funeral cortèges, liaising with funeral directors, supporting mourners, preparing the chapel between services and helping ensure that funeral services proceed professionally and on time.
Must have relevant experience and be trained as a cremator., Applicants must be able to provide evidence of recognised cremator training and recent practical experience of operating cremation equipment. A sound understanding of crematorium procedures, health and safety requirements and the respectful handling of the deceased and cremated remains is essential. We are looking for someone who is reliable, calm under pressure and comfortable working in a sensitive, customer-facing environment. The successful candidate must communicate professionally, work effectively as part of a small team and be willing to undertake a range of operational duties to support service delivery. The assignment is expected to begin at the start of October 2026 and will initially run for a 2 month duration, subject to operational requirements. Working hours will be
- on a Rota system ( 8-4pm and a 10-6pm , although some flexibility may be required to meet the funeral service programme.
