As Head of Government & External Affairs for Worcester Bosch, reporting directly into the CEO, your purpose is to protect, shape and advance Worcester Bosch’s interests within the UK political, regulatory and industry landscape. You will act as the organisation’s strategic bridge between government, regulators, trade bodies, media and industry stakeholders, ensuring Worcester Bosch has a strong, credible and influential voice in shaping the future of heating, cooling and energy policy. This role exists to move us towards proactive, anticipating change, influencing outcomes, and equipping the CEO and Board with clear, timely insight on what external forces mean for our strategy, customers and commercial priorities.
You are a senior leader, working in close partnership with the CEO, Product and Technology Director, Director of Marketing and Bosch UK leadership. You will represent Worcester Bosch externally as a trusted industry voice, while also acting internally as the single point of accountability for government affairs, public policy, external communications and industry influence. This role consolidates and elevates activities spread across policy, lobbying, spokesperson duties and executive-level external engagement. You will work in close partnership with the Head of Technical Standards. Whilst you will lead on the political and policy implications of regulation, the Head of Technical Standards will be responsible for representing Worcester Bosch within technical committees to shape detailed product standards and specifications. The scope of the role is deliberately strategic and external‑facing. It excludes operational training delivery and internal capability programmes, which will sit elsewhere in the organisation. You will lead relationships across Westminster, Whitehall, devolved administrations, regulators, trade bodies/associations, think tanks and media, ensuring Worcester Bosch is consistently positioned as a credible, solutions‑led partner to government and industry.
Scope of the Role
- Government & Policy Influence – Develop and lead Worcester Bosch’s UK government affairs strategy, influencing policy and regulation across heating, cooling, energy efficiency, electrification and net zero. Proactively engage policymakers to shape outcomes aligned to our multi‑technology position.
- Industry Leadership & Lobbying – Own senior relationships with trade bodies/associations, industry forums and lobby groups. Represent Worcester Bosch as a thought leader, ensuring our positions are well understood and reflected in industry‑wide advocacy.
- External Communications & Spokesperson Role – Act as an external spokesperson function, including media engagement, commentary, public statements and industry events. Ensure consistency, credibility and strategic alignment in all external messaging.
- Executive & Board Intelligence – Provide regular, high‑quality briefings to the CEO and Board on Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental developments. Translate external change into clear implications, risks and opportunities for the business.
- Bosch UK Alignment & One Bosch Advocacy – Work in close partnership with Bosch UK leadership to align lobbying, policy positions and messaging across divisions.
Qualifications
- Education – Degree‑level education or equivalent professional experience. Qualification in public policy, politics, economics, communications or similar (desirable).
- Experience – Experience in government affairs, public policy, external relations or industry advocacy. Proven track record of influencing policy or regulation within a complex, regulated environment. Experience acting as an external spokesperson or managing senior media relationships. Strong understanding of UK political and legislative processes. Experience working with trade bodies and cross‑industry coalitions.
- Skills – Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills. Strong written and verbal communication. Ability to translate complex external developments into clear business insight. Strategic thinking with commercial awareness. High levels of judgement, discretion and credibility.
- Attributes – Calm, confident and authoritative without ego. Politically astute and future‑focused. Trusted advisor mindset. Comfortable operating at Executive and Board level. Values collaboration and alignment over personal profile.
