We are seeking passionate and proactive Community Engagement Officers to support our community services team in delivering meaningful engagement, participation, community safety and partnership-building across Worcester through Asset Based Approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Work with local residents, community groups and partners to identify community strengths, assets and opportunities for greater involvement.
  • Facilitate community conversations, listening events and co-design workshops to enable people to influence decisions and projects that affect their neighbourhoods.
  • Map and maintain awareness of local community activity and networks, and promote connections between people, groups and organisations.
  • Support the development of community-led initiatives, encouraging ownership and empowerment.
  • Organise and deliver events, workshops and outreach activities in the community (which may include evenings or weekends) to build engagement, community safety and a sense of belonging.
  • Maintain records, case studies and evaluation of engagement activities; report on outcomes and learning to inform practice.
  • Act as an ambassador for the councils values, working collaboratively across teams and with partners, and adapting to the needs of diverse communities.
  • Support the Councils response to Community Safety including leading on and participating in community safety initiatives and campaigns such as bike marking events, White Ribbon events and Hate Crime awareness.
  • Support and promote community cohesion initiatives including the City of Sanctuary programme to ensure Worcester remains a place of safety and welcome to all members of the community.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working with communities, volunteers or grassroots groups (paid or voluntary).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: able to initiate conversations, build relationships and engage a wide range of people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing your own workload, and undertaking outreach in the community.
  • Good IT skills (Microsoft Office, email, Teams) and ability to manage data, prepare reports and produce case-studies.
  • A positive, flexible approach, comfortable working some evenings or weekends when needed, and able to travel across the city.
  • A genuine commitment to community empowerment, social inclusion and building strong, safer and connected communities.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge or experience of using community-development approaches (for example Asset Based Community Development).
  • Experience of working with hard-to-reach or marginalised groups.
  • Experience of facilitating workshops, events or training.
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluation of engagement activity, using data to assess outcomes.
  • Understanding of local government or public-sector context.

Terms of Employment

These posts are full time (37 hours per week) for an initial fixed term of two years.
