It is an essential part of our students’ knowledge-rich curriculum. At Key Stage 3 they have 2 lessons a week and cover in depth the most powerful and important concepts in the subject. This is so that they finish Year 9 empowered to better understand the world around them even if they don’t pick the subject at GCSE. That said, Geography is incredibly popular at Key stage 4. More students choose it as an option than any other subject. We tend to have 5 or 6 GCSE classes in each of Years 10 and 11, and growing numbers opt for it when picking A-levels. The Geography team is known for its commitment to academic excellence and pastoral care. The curriculum has been carefully informed by the science of learning so that students have the best chance of mastering and savouring what is covered. Lessons are designed to be rigorous and thought-provoking, helping students develop an academic and intellectual framework to better understand the role and impact of geography on society and culture. Our Geography colleagues work closely with other humanities staff to share best practice and support one another to ensure students experience a coherent curriculum packed full of powerful knowledge.
If you believe in the life-changing potential of a great Geography curriculum and want to work somewhere disruption-free, where the subject is valued, teachers can teach, and students are keen to learn, then Wootton Academy could be the place for you. We become a full secondary school this year and need more teachers who love the subject to join the team. Whether you are at an early stage in your career or further along and looking for a fresh challenge, teaching at Wootton provides a great opportunity to use your expertise and passion to make a difference to the next generation of geographers!
Requirements: Applicants must possess graduate subject knowledge and have high expectations. The ability to teach up to Year 11 GCSE and offer a second subject would be desirable.
